“Becky” the little Border Collie cross – Re-homed

We are delighted to be able to tell everyone that Becky has found the perfect home with an English couple down near Bellac.  We are extremely grateful to Mary Robson and her family who fostered Becky for nearly 3 months and realised the potential of this lovely little animal, who is now a happy normal dog again. Thanks Mary.

This sweet little dog is about the size of a Fox Terrier. Mum was a Border Collie and we suspect Dad was a Jack Russell cross Spaniel… perhaps. Becky is only 1 year old and has been sterilized, micro-chipped and fully vaccinated.

Becky is owned by an English family who live next to a busy motorway and this is the problem and why we have put her into a temporary foster home.   If she had stayed where she was it was inevitable that she would get out and be killed on the road. Her owners are running a business and keeping a dog indoors all the time was not working out, nor was it fair on Becky.  The alternative was a trip to the SPA to join the many thousands of unwanted little souls behind bars and we could not let that happen.

Since staying with her foster family Becky has improved no end, but we must find this lovely dog a permanent home.  Please read what her foster family have to say, they have been honest and fair.

Becky - latest appraisal: She’s still a very young dog (just a big puppy really) who loves to play and needs a lot of exercise and I do mean a lot! She loves to run and run and run and although she comes back every time, she doesn’t always come back when she’s called and although I have made some progress with getting her to respond to her name she does suffer from ‘selective hearing’ at times – if you know what I mean! At the moment this isn’t too much of a problem but it does need addressing and I wouldn’t want to walk her off the lead in a strange place. The speed she runs at and the distance she covers is unbelievable – I’m not used to it because I don’t have that problem with Alfie! In fact they’re complete opposites – perhaps it would be easier if they were a similar breed/size or she was a little older.
Also we’ve still got a slight issue with the cats – they’ve met each other and there’s no real problem as long as the cats don’t move suddenly, if they do, she chases them every time. I know that she wouldn’t harm them but I don’t think they’re terribly impressed with her- so they tend to live in the woodstore now which is a shame and rather unfair.
I really do feel that she would benefit from some regular obedience/training classes.

However, on a more positive note, she really is a super dog with a lovely temperament and will make someone a wonderful companion. She’s fully housetrained, good in the car and on a lead, socialises well with other dogs. She’s bright, bouncy and full of fun, gentle and completely non-aggressive, very affectionate and loves sitting on the settee with you having her tummy rubbed! She’s incredibly nosey and if you’ve lost or misplaced something, you can guarantee that Becky’s picked it up and moved it somewhere else (usually to her basket or in the garden!) She’s a happy, loyal girl and just enjoys being with you and joining in with whatever you’re doing and as I said before, she’s never once tried to escape since being here and I’m positive it’s because she’s being given enough excercise and attention.

She really deserves a kind but firm owner who will give her the time and affection that she needs.
