Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Rex. At first glance I stepped back, but when he just wagged his tail and came forward to greet me, my concern at his size and appearance dropped away and instead I saw a lovely old gentleman who just needs a loving home.
If he were human, Rex would be able to retire gracefully to an old folks home, as it is, if a home cannot be found he will pay the ultimate price.
Rex’s owner died in February, owned and much loved from a little puppy, Rex has only known kindness and human companionship, which is why he feels so very sad now. His owner has gone and whilst humans come to feed and water him, he can’t understand why his master doesn’t come back.
Rex is just another dog getting on in years 10 1/2, but his owner loved him enough to have him vaccinated every year including rabies, although typically French he was never castrated.
The future is looking very bleak for Rex unless some kind soul comes forward to adopt him, and if they do they will have done a wonderful thing. Giving an older dog even a few extra years of lying in the sun, will repay their kindness 100 fold. Old dogs are a bit like old people, they have their own stories to tell, and if you give Rex a chance, his story will be an interesting one.
Although the photos show Rex on a chain he is normally allowed to wander freely and lives indoors. He was non aggressive when he met my little dog, just wagged his tail.
Rex is tatooed and fully vaccinated. Financial help will be given to have him castrated if this is thought advisable.
